Now Passed Is the Old Year, from Family Christmas OnlineTMSomewhere in the past, this centuries-old German melody has been attached to lyrics about the New Year. It has been kept "alive" in the Mennonite tradition, and is the only New Year's song I know of that has lyrics with spiritual content. To me that makes a nice change. I first came across this song when I was asked to lead our church's worship on a New Year's service. I was surprised and quite glad to find this song in the hymnbook. Still, I've discovered since that hardly anyone outside of Mennonite or Brethren circles knows of this song's existence. I believe it deserves a wider circulation among churchgoers. For that reason, I have provided an MP3 version to listen to and sheet music of an SATB arrangement. The words and melody can also be easily adapted to 3/4 time, although I haven't provided that version - use your imagination. To hear an MP3 file of the song click here. Now pas-sed is the old year,
On Earth was born the Christ Child,
So let us all adore him
